Health impact

Does your university as a body have current collaborations with local or global health institutions to improve health & wellbeing outcomes?

Our university was certified by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a healthy workplace and received the highest grade of certification for the promotion of health. We collaborate with the local health bureau and the Ministry of Health and Welfare to provide health promotion policies and measures for the faculty and staff of our university. In addition, The Ministry of Education has offered the university a subsidy as an institution of higher education, to strengthen the facilitation and implementation of health promotion activities.

Three full-time nurses, eight full-time psychologists, and 22 part-time psychologists work at the university to provide free health consultations, medical care, individual and group consultations, and health management services. In addition, we invite family physicians, psychiatrists, and Chinese medicine practitioners from the regional medical centre (Changhua Christian Hospital) to our university to provide on-campus outpatient services, physical and mental health consultations, and physical therapies. We also collaborate with 23 local clinics for medical resource referrals and medical care at preferential prices for all teachers and students in our university.

I. Cooperation with local health authorities:

(1) We cooperate with the regional medical centre (Changhua Christian Hospital) to support doctors’ resident services in our university and provide the main responsible hospital for the health care of teachers and students on campus.

(2)    We work together with the regional teaching hospital (Show Chwan Memorial Hospital) as the contracted hospital for health check-ups or the main responsible hospital for treatment and prevention of diseases.

(3)    We cooperate with the Health Bureau to carry out health promotion work such as education on the prevention of AIDS, providing influenza vaccinations, and prevention and treatment of infectious diseases.

(4)    We have contracted 23 regional medical institutions to provide medical care at preferential prices for our teachers and students.

(5) In 2017, jointly with the Taiwan Changhua District Prosecutors Office we held the first and second sessions of the honorary probation officer growth training. This assisted honorary probation officers in improving their guiding knowledge and promoting the physical and mental health of ex-prisoners in Changhua County.

II. Cooperation with national health agencies:

(1) From 2013 to 2018, we have collaborated with the Bridging Harts Psychodrama Training Institute in Texas, USA. A 36-hour psychological drama and a two-stage physical-work workshop are held each year to help our country’s psychologists (including tutors, psychologists, social workers, and probation officers amongst others) to improve their professional knowledge, and learn how to care for themselves physically and mentally, so as to help people in our country improve their physical and mental health.

(2)    In 2017 and 2018, our university was entrusted by the Ministry of Education to hold the national seminar on guidance and awareness of prevention and control of drug abuse in colleges and universities. This assisted the faculty and staff of all colleges and universities in our country to improve their knowledge of how to prevent and control drug abuse, thereby promoting the development of healthy physical and mental activities and reducing drug abuse among university and college students.

(3)    In 2017 and 2018, our university was entrusted by the Ministry of Education to hold the training seminar for education professionals on the prevention and control of campus sexual assault, sexual harassment, or sexual bullying. It enabled faculty and staff of all colleges and universities in our country to raise awareness of gender equality and provided knowledge on ways to prevent and control sexual abuse. It thereby promoted a friendly campus education environment in all colleges and universities in our country, reducing sexual assault, sexual harassment, or sexual bullying behaviour, and enhancing the physical and mental health of teachers and students.

(4)    Our university has been subsidised by the Ministry of Education to implement the university and college health promotion programme, Echinacea Campaign (drugs, tobacco, and drug abuse prevention and control), moral education promotion, and the Higher Education Sprout Project.

(5) Our university has been certified by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a health promotion workplace and has been subsidised to implement the AIDS-friendly environment construction programme at university and college levels.
