Participation in local, regional and national government (and others)

Does your university as a body provide specific expert advice to local, regional or national government (e.g. through policy guidance, participation in committees, provision of evidence)?

 

Chen Jinyan, a professor from the Department of Guidance and Counselling of our university, has continued to participate in the ‘Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women’ (CEDAW) by the United Nations, and brought forth suggestions for policy making during gender equality conferences held by the Executive Yuan.

 

For example, Professor Chen Jinyan is invited to participate in the 63rd session of the UN CSW63 that will be held from 10–22 Mar 2019. Professor Jinyan is responsible for organizing one of the peripheral meetings (theme: mental health: key to realize sustainability in light of human rights) and will publish a paper titled ‘When Human Rights Become a Referendum Option: The Influence of Same-Sex Marriage Disputes on the Mental Health of LBTI Women in Taiwan’.

 

Professor Lin Qianhui was appointed as a member of the Gender Equality Committee of the Executive Yuan.

Professors Guo Li’an and Lin Qianhui were appointed as members of the Gender Equality Committee of the Ministry of Education.

They have put forward various suggestions at the national government level.

 

Our university’s faculty members from different departments and schools often participate in various national-level projects, providing all kinds of specific suggestions. For example, instructor Wang Sufen provided professional advice on projects, such as the Council of Agriculture’s project titled ‘Evaluation of Soil and Water Resources Conservation and Ecological Service Benefits Impacted by Disasters’ and the Ministry of Science and Technology’s ‘Construction of a Cross-Scale Social Impact Assessment System for Rainfall Hazards (3/3)’. Different ministries, county and municipal governments, and NGOs often request our university’s faculty members to serve as committee members at different capacities to offer policy guidance and professional advice.
