NCUE and the Yu Hua National Type Secondary School (SMJK Yu Hua) in Malaysia signed the Letter of Intent on Cooperation and changed views on the application for studies at NCUE and the overseas graduate programs established by NCUE in Malaysia while Director Mei-Chin Tsai of Counseling Office at SMJK Yu Hua led a team to come to attend the teacher training workshop in March. Recently NCUE has extended the recruitment effort from local independent Chinese secondary schools in Malaysia to the public ones. It is expected to increase the diversity of NCUE students.

National type Chinese secondary schools (SMJK schools) in Malaysia is public ones, which teach in Malay, English and Chinese. Last August NCUE President Kuo visited Malaysia and signed cooperation agreements with more than ten independent and SMJK schools. Recently NCUE attended Malaysia-Taiwan Higher Education Fair. The NCUE stand was crowded with the visitors from local secondary schools including SMJK Yu Hua. Director Tsai also paid a visit to it.

SMJK Yu Hua is about to celebrate its 100th anniversary next year. Composed of 18 school supervisors and teachers, the SMJK Yu Hua delegation came for the teacher training workshop at NCUE and visited the Affiliated Industrial Vocational High School of NCUE and Chang Tai Junior High School.

President Kuo hosted the welcome meeting. He pointed out in remarks that NCUE has been putting a lot of effort into local Chinese education in Malaysia for 10 years. Aside from creating four in-service Master’s Programs in School Administration, Guidance and Counseling, Art Education, and Mathematical Creative Teaching for the teachers of primary and secondary schools and Chinese educational institutions in Malaysia, NCUE also encourages Malaysian students to study at NCUE with the recommendation for application from school principle so as to be entitled to get an tuition fee discount for the first year and an arrangement of accommodation. They also have scholarship opportunities offered by Dr. Yang, Chung-Li.

NCUE is a public university with excellent quality of teaching and research. It is the only normal university which has been rewarded for teaching excellence by the Ministry of Education for 10 consecutive years. President Kuo looks forward to SMJK Yu Hua graduates joining NCUE family for further studies. He added that the Office of International and Cross-strait Affairs at NCUE will take good care of them while they are studying in Taiwan.

Director Tsai of SMJK Yu Hua indicated that the delegation got a wonderful reception from NCUE. Upon their arrival, she could feel that the spirit required by the education industry exists in NCUE. She expects to share her experience here in Taiwan with her colleagues at SMJK Yu Hua. As there have been a few SMJK Yu Hua teachers benefiting from the overseas Master’s programs offered by NCUE, she expressed her hope that these programs could be everlasting in Malaysia. She also paid her respect to President Kuo for his familiarity with Malaysian educational system because of his frequent visits to Malaysia.
