Exchange Students Visit Sun Moon Lake in Drizzle and Mist

The Office of International and Cross-strait Affairs (OICA) led 111 students from Mainland China and Germany to visit Che Cheng, a mountain town once prosperous for the logging industry, and the Sun Moon Lake, a must-see attraction in Taiwan, on April 22. They not only experienced the beauty of nature and culture in central Taiwan, but also made friends with those from different places. It was drizzling but the students enjoyed the painting-like views of the mist day, bringing them a memorable experience.

Che Cheng is a township located in Shuili, Nantou County. It is known for the terminal station of Jiji Rail Line. This mountain town was prosperous for the logging industry, but the glory gradually faded. However, the old train station still remains intact and becomes one of the most beautiful train station in Taiwan. The deserted sawmill behind the station is converted into a timber exhibition hall that makes a delightful contrast with the tranquil forest. A group photo of all the exchange students and teachers was taken in this setting with a splash-ink-like landscape.  The students really enjoyed the moment while the cool breeze swept over their faces.

The students later were led to Wenwu Temple and Yidashao Pier by Sun Moon Lake. In addition to tasting aboriginal snacks, shopping for souvenirs and taking pictures, they either had a boat tour or chose to cycle around the lake. The last stop is the nearby Xiangshan Visitor Center, which was built with minimum elements such as waterscape, lawn and concrete to create a Zen spirit of simplicity. It offers the functions of customer service and sightseeing, enabling visitors to overlook and appreciate the beauty of the lake. The painting-like images of the mountain and lake in the misty day brings the students a memorable experience.
