NCUE and Jilin Normal University Expect to Build Partnership

A visiting group of five from Jilin Normal University (JNU) of Mainland China visited NCUE to exchange views about future cooperation and exchange. JNU is a key university in Jilin Province into which the government has been pouring abundant resources, particularly focusing on basic sciences such as Chemistry. NCUE is planning to sign the cooperation agreement with JNU, adding a prestigious university to the partner list. NCUE Vice President Ming-Fei Chen expressed his high expectation of further cooperation between two universities starting with short-term exchange visits.

JNU will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. It has two campuses in Siping and Changchun with a total of 22 colleges, 33 research institutes and 64 academic departments. There are about 16,000 students enrolled at JNU. As a research base for engineering and human sciences, JNU is equipped with facilities sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the Mainland, such as the Key Lab of Functional Materials Physics & Chemistry and the Key Lab of Preparation and Applications of Environmental Friendly Materials, which earn the school a reputation for basic education in the Mainland.

The delegation is led by Deputy Secretary Wan-Min Liu of the Party Committee at JNU. Vice President Chen hosted the exchange meeting.

The main purpose of this visit for the delegation is to enhance mutual understanding, deepen the friendships and promote the exchange and cooperation between two universities, said Secretary Liu. He pointed out that JNU has been transformed into a comprehensive university, but it still holds 18 educational programs and remains the center of higher education teaching training in Jilin Province. In addition, given that Siping City is the home of Manchu culture, JNU offers the only doctoral program in Manchu Language and Culture in Mainland China, assuming the responsibility of passing on their culture to future generations. Since the two universities share common background such as teacher training and the emphasis on traditional culture, Secretary Liu looks forward to the development of varied cooperation in the future.

In addition to the on-campus labs built with the help of the Ministry of Education, the government consistently leverages JNU’s R&D capabilities in the field of basic education by contributing abundant resources, such as the Institute of Applied Chemistry established in Changchun City by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which provides strong support for mutual cooperation in related fields. JNU also express its hope to introduce NCUE’s feature training programs to its College of Continuing Education, or to invite NCUE professors to give lectures at JNU so as to complement each other and deepen mutual cooperation and relationships.
