NCUE Adds New Partner, UHN in Indonesia to Strengthen Ties with S.E. Asia

In response to the New Southbound Policy of the Government, NCUE has actively expanded ties with ASEAN higher education based on the strategy of internationalization. Recently NCUE established a partnership with University HKBP Nommensen (UHN) in Indonesia, increasing the number of NCUE’s partner schools to 127. UHN spares no effort to promote the interaction with Taiwan. Recently Dr. Richard Napitupulu, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UHN, visited NCUE in the hope of sending students over to pursue Ph.D. or to study on exchange.

UHN is a private university established in Medan of North Sumatra in 1954. It has 10 colleges including Teachers Training and Education, Languages and Arts, Engineering, Social and Political Sciences, Medicine, Law, and Economics, among others. There is an enrollment of approximately 12 thousand students.

UHN is devoted to internationalization. It not only gets authorized to hold TOEFL ITP tests administered by ETS but also is the only university conducting international cooperating programs in North Sumatra. Further, it offers scholarships for alumni for graduate studies abroad. Incumbent UHN president, a Ph.D., is one of the scholarship beneficiaries.

Associate Dean Herry Pasaribu of the Faculty of Economics at UHN came along with Dr. Napitupulu. They exchanged opinions with NCUE President Yen-Kuang Kuo about future collaboration, and presented him an Indonesian Batik, showing that they think highly of this visit.

NCUE and UHN signed the Memorandum of Understanding and the Agreement of Teacher and Student Exchanges to provide a platform for future interactions, such as exchange programs for teachers and students, Master’s and Doctoral student recruitment, and the Chinese programs and the international summer camps hosted by NCUE.
