Some fifty high-school students from Macao visits NCUE to explore the University for future study in Taiwan. Expatriate youth can study at NCUE via individual application as overseas Chinese students through the Overseas Joint Enrollment Committee, by self-recruitment at NCUE, or by application for admission with the status of international students. Those who get admitted to NCUE with the recommendation for application from the school principal would be entitled to get a tuition fee discount for the first year and an arrangement of accommodation during the school years at NCUE. Currently there are over 50 students at NCUE from Hong Kong and Macao, next to Malaysian students.

Led by Ms. Chien-Ting Fang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Macao, the visiting group members are high school seniors from more than 10 schools. Ms. Fang indicated that the purpose of this visit is to explore the living and studying environment and to experience campus life at NCUE for further studies in the future.

NCUE President Yen-Kuang Kuo stated at the welcome meeting that NCUE is one of the three normal universities in Taiwan, whose graduates consist of one-third of high-school principals and teachers in the nation. NCUE has transformed into a comprehensive university in the past 20 years and has been rewarded for teaching excellence by the Ministry of Education for 11 consecutive years, recognized as a quality university internationally.

President Kuo pointed out that NCUE has more than 140 partner universities around the world, among which include prestigious ones such as UC Berkeley. The partner universities offer plenty of opportunities for students to study abroad like internships and dual-degree programs. It is reported that President Kuo is planning a trip to Europe, which is expected to establish partnerships with more institutions to offer further opportunities for NCUE students.

For those from Macao who are planning to become a teacher and to take educational programs, according to President Kuo, NUCE will issue the program enrollment certificate and help arrange internships in Taiwan after their graduation. A few Departments such as Guidance and Counseling, and Special Education, are first established and the largest in scale among the colleges and universities in Taiwan. The graduates with the disciplines mentioned are in high demand in the job markets in Taiwan and Macao, and NCUE will also offer job search help for them.

NCUE is conveniently located and close to the greater Taichung area and many famous scenic spots, offering the simple environment for education and convenient condition for leisure. President Kuo indicated that NCUE Alumni Association in Macao has been established and the number of students from Macao has increased gradually. He expressed his hope that the student visitors would choose NCUE to be the study destiny in the following year.
