NCUE, KMUTT Expect to Create Internships for Exchange Students

Dr. Hung-ming Ku, President Assistant of Thailand King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and Program Director of the Chemical Engineering Practice School (ChEPS), led a group to visit NCUE in the hope of deepening the partnership. KMUTT gives weight to the integration of theory and practice and emphasizes close ties with industries. Creating internship opportunities for the exchange students from both universities is highly expected.

KMUTT, one of the leading universities of technology in Thailand, became NCUE’s first Thailand partner in October 2017. Both sides offer students the opportunity for exchange studies. Established in 1960, KMUTT is one of the nine world-class National Research Universities proclaimed by Thailand Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC). According to the latest QS rankings, KMUTT was ranked around 170 in Asia. Featuring science and engineering, KMUTT plays an important role of cultivating talents in the fields of architecture, biological resources, energy, engineering, environment, technology and linguistics, etc. KMUTT values the application of knowledge in the industry and offers students the opportunity to work in domestic and overseas industries and on innovative research projects through its work integrated learning programs. Likewise, ChEPS led by Dr. Ku requires students to accomplish a one-semester on-site working project.

Besides Dr. Ku, the delegation includes Dean of KMUTT Work-Integrated Learning Office, Dr. Saranya Thonglek, and a commissioner of the Office of International Affairs.

When meeting the visitors, President Kuo expressed his hope to deepen the collaboration with KMUTT by promoting exchange student practical training project working with local industries, inviting KMUTT students to join NCUE international summer camp, and conducting joint research projects, etc. President Kuo made much of creating internship opportunities for the exchange students based on the two universities’ rich experiences of industry-university collaboration. Dr. Ku recognizes this idea and expects to facilitate this project that increases students’ international practical experience.

Dean Cindy Huang of the Office of International and Cross-strait Strait then hosted the luncheon, during which both sides had further a discussion about the internship project for exchange students, faculty exchange and NCUE summer camp for KMUTT students, etc., hoping to lay a solid foundation for future collaboration between the two universities.
