OCSA Hosts New Year Gala for Overseas Chinese Students

The Overseas Chinese Student Association (OCSA) at NCUE hosted a Chinese New Year gala with a welcome party for overseas Chinese and international students in an evening of the first week of the semester. Li-Ying Lai, Director General of the Department of Expatriate Affairs at the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), who was impressed by the vivaciousness and politeness of NCUE overseas students, expressed her hope that the students dedicate to their studies and enjoy the learning journey at NCUE.

Apart from conveying belated Chinese New Year greetings to the students, Direct General Lai and Dean Cindy Huang of the Office of International and Cross-strait Affairs pasted together a Spring Festival couplet, on which there was a big Chinese "Spring" on the wall, creating a lively New Year atmosphere on the occasion.

Direct General Lai announcing that the OCAC donated a bicycle as a prize for the lucky draw event carried out later greatly elated the students. She indicated that Oversea Chinese students are welcome to capitalize on the Overseas Credit Guarantee Fund sponsored by the OCAC to start businesses in Taiwan after graduating. She also encouraged the students to travel around to experience the beauty of Taiwan.

Dean Huang expressed her appreciation for OCAC's donation and its consistent support for the overseas Chinese students at NCUE by offering scholarships. She also recognized OCSA's efforts in providing services for students. From this year on the annual award ceremony of the Scholarship for Excellent New Graduates sponsored by the OCAC will be included in the Commencement. The students' parents are very welcome to attend the Commencement to share the moment of pride with their children, said Dean Huang.

Each of the attendee students received a red envelope for Chinese New Year from the faculty present at the occasion. Those from India, Korea, etc. were surprised but felt warm. The lucky draw event was an exciting section that activated the atmosphere at the scene. The drawing for the bicycle donated by the OCAC especially pushed the night to a climax.
