NCUE Ranked 101-102 in Times Higher Education World University Impact Rankings

The Times Higher Education (THE) released the World University Impact Rankings on April 3, 2019. NCUE is ranked in the 101-200 bracket in the world. There are 12 universities from Taiwan on the list, in which Tzu Chi University is placed at 67th, followed by the others. NCUE lies in 5th position among the 12 universities. In terms of public universities, National Taiwan University comes out on top at 70th, while NCUE, which is the only one without a medical school among Taiwan’s top 5 universities in the rankings, is in 3rd position.

The University Impact Rankings measure global universities’ success in delivering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It evaluated the performance of more than 450 universities from 76 countries on 11 out of 17 UN SDGs.

Sustainable development is an important goal for NCUE. A website (http://en.ncue.edu.tw/files/11-1038-2730.php?Lang=en) archiving the data of NCUE’s SDGs has been set up in coordination with UN SDGs. NCUE scores high in a few categories, including SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities (21st overall, 2nd in Taiwan), SDG 4: Quality Education (42nd overall, 1st in Taiwan), and SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing (101-200th). NCUE achieves good results overall for individual SDGs with its position mostly in the top 200.

NCUE’s rankings for individual SDGs show that the multicultural curriculum designed by the Center for General Education, fulfillment of social responsibilities by the Center for Teaching Excellence, implementation of MoE’s projects such as the Higher Education Sprout Project and Scholarships for Excellent Students to Study Abroad, and policy on gender equality of the University are well recognized. NCUE has been consistently devoting significant resources to offering quality education and lifelong learning, making volunteering policies for students, and eliminating education inequality. Those efforts earn NCUE a spot in the world impact rankings.

NCUE has first appeared in a few THE rankings recently with encouraging results, including being placed in the top 251-300 list in the Asia-Pacific region and in the 301-350 position in emerging economies, indicating that the University strives to advance and encourage research and education innovation to ensure that, building on its firm foundation of quality, NCUE will endeavor to continue to grow as a distinctive, outstanding and internationally renowned hall of learning.
