Professor Venema James in Foreign Languages at Aichi University of Education, one of NCUE’s partner universities in Japan, led 10 students to visit NCUE recently. In addition to the Graduate Institute of Children’s English and the Office of International and Cross-strait Affairs (OICA), they visited two elementary schools in Taichung and Changhua for English teaching observation. The partnership between NCUE and Aichi has a long history. Both universities look forward to deepening cooperation in aspects of teaching, research, student exchange, etc.
Aichi University of Education became NCUE’s first partner university of Japan in 2004. Since 2009, there have been NCUE students applying to study at Aichi on exchange almost every year. Professor James was invited by the Graduate Institute of Children’s English to give a keynote speech. Accompanied by the Graduate Institute of Children’s English, the visitors also visited the Affiliated Elementary School of Tunghai University in Taichung and Minsheng Elementary School in Changhua to observe English teaching.
Along with Professor Li-Ling Chuang in Children’s English, Professor James and his students visited OICA. OICA Dean Cindy Huang extended a welcome to them. Dean Huang indicated that there are similarities between NCUE and Aichi University of Education, which facilitates building a strong relationship. In the past few years, NCUE was inspired in various aspects by the Aichi’s faculty coming to visit. Because this was the first student visiting group ever from Aichi, she expressed her hope that the two universities deepen their cooperation, including developing dual-degree programs. She also invited Aichi’s students to come and study.
Professor James was impressed by the landscapes and the food of Taiwan and expressed gratitude for the reception he and his students had during the visit. He stated that exchange visits of teachers and students would be beneficial for building a close relationship between NCUE and Aichi University of Education.
