To fulfil the visions of humanistic solicitude, environmental conservation, talent cultivation, and the sustainable development of local industries, the University sought approval from the Environmental Protection Administration to organise the ‘Generative Collaboration Workshops on Environmental Sustainability and Rice Farming in Changhua’. A practical environmental programme was developed to engage local residents from Taichung, Changhua, and Nantou, volunteers from local environmental groups, young returning farmers, and students from higher education institutions, thereby imparting an in-depth understanding of local environmental issues and the application of innovative agricultural technologies. Sustainable local environmental actions were designed and implemented through seminars, group-based idea generation, and discussions on action plans to address environmental sustainability issues in rice farming.

Through diverse program planning and environmentally-friendly field practices in a rice-farming community, this program integrated environmental issues with the industries. Participants were able to think creatively and improve their practical abilities, devising industrial solutions for enhanced marketing and innovative rice development. By reinforcing students’ and local residents’ recognition of the development of local cultural industries, it was hoped that upon completion of the workshop, every participant could become a project planner for local and agricultural development, transforming the local community with creative designs and empowering the diverse and healthy growth of local industries.

The University’s Environmental Education Centre has been recognized by the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan as an accredited institution of environmental education. With a cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional faculty, its main responsibilities include applying for the development of projects under the Environmental Protection Administration and Ministry of Education and the following: 1. Recruiting trainees to undergo the 33-hour classes and 120-hour training sessions designed for educators to foster talents in environmental resources and ecosystem conservation; 2. Counselling and assisting local green communities in their robust development to fulfil the University’s social responsibility; 3. Counselling and assisting local sites to be certified as environmental education facilities; and 4. Promoting extended industry-academia cooperation and the sustainable use of environmental resources.
