Does your university as a body have a policy on reducing plastic waste on campus?
Our approach (SDG15-12)

The university follows the policy as per the instructions published by the Environmental Protection Administration and an attempt is being made to reduce plastic waste on campus.
General description of the policy includes the restricted usage of disposable cutlery, implementation methods, and timeline for the implementation of the policy.
The Environment Protection Administration of Executive Yuan launched the policy regarding the Restricted Usage of Plastic Shopping Bags and Plastic (Polystyrene) Disposal Cutlery in July 2002. In line with Article 21 of the Waste Disposal Act, the administration announced the restricted usage of plastic shopping bags and plastic (Polystyrene) disposable cutlery, and the implementation method and timeline of the policy. After 9 June 2006, upon the abolishment of the announcement, reviews were conducted regarding non-plastic disposable cutlery for meals provided by government departments, schools, and restaurants. Plastic shopping bags and disposable cutlery were categorised once again and the policy was announced on 9 June 2006. To continuously promote the usage of reusable cutlery, users bringing their own environmentally friendly cutlery to reduce the usage of disposable cutlery, recent trend of international restrictions on disposable cutlery, discussions on national and international ocean pollution, and past suggestions offered by the community, were referred to. The restricted target users were extended to eat-in meals and disposable cutlery, regardless of material, is not to be provided for eat-in meals. In view of the extension of the restricted targets different scale and mode of operation, the resulting impact and influence is rather great. Moreover, a number of the current local agencies-in-charge have prior promotion experience and techniques for reference. Department stores, shopping centres, and hypermarkets are prohibited from providing disposable cutlery, regardless of material, to consumers for eat-in meals. However, fast food chains and convenient store chains operating inside the aforementioned premises are not restricted from providing disposable cutlery. Other considerations include mode, scale of operation, practical operation in area, and so on. In the meantime, local agencies-in-charge have been asked to survey the condition and propose the implementation date. Following this, the central agencies-in-charge will approve and implement the policy. To simplify the name of the announcement, it will be revised to ‘Restricted Usage of Plastic Shopping Bags and Plastic (Polystyrene) Disposable Cutlery, and the Policy Implementation Method’.
