Dr. Hung-ming Ku, President Assistant of Thailand King Mongkut University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and Program Director of the Chemical Engineering Practice School (ChEPS), led a group to visit NCUE in the hope of deepening the partnership. KMUTT gives weight to the integration of theory and practice and emphasizes close ties with industries. Creating internship opportunities for the exchange students from both universities is highly expected.
Hexi University from Mainland China came to visit recently in the hope of building a cooperative partnership with NCUE, particularly laying emphasis upon the fields of teacher training and technological and vocational education. Both universities have been through a major transforming from normal universities into comprehensive ones.
The Office of International and Cross-strait Affairs (OICA) led 216 students from Mainland China, Germany, Japan, and Malaysia to visit Che Cheng and the Sun Moon Lake in mid-October to experience the beauty of humanity and culture of Central Taiwan. The student buddies and international ambassadors trained by OICA served as either tour managers or tour guides. It was drizzling from time to time. However, the students enjoyed the painting-like views of the misty day, gaining unforgettable memories during their trip.
Shandong Normal University (SDNU) and Zhejiang Normal University (ZJNU), two of NCUE’s partner universities in Mainland China, came to visit NCUE in November 2017 and had a conversation with their exchange students at NCUE, sharing their learning and living experience in Taiwan. Both universities participated in the Fifth Forum for Presidents of Normal Universities in the Greater China Region hosted by NCUE in 2016. They expressed their hope of deepening the collaboration with NCUE, including conducting joint research projects, holding joint conferences, and inviting President Yen-Kuang Kuo to pay a visit to the Mainland.
Taiwan Ministry of Education (MOE) recently awarded five universities, of which NCUE is one and the only winner located in Central Taiwan, for their excellent international student counseling in 2017. It shows NCUE’s achievement of internationalization based on President Kuo’s governing strategy, which is widely recognized, actively offering sufficient support to international students in hopes that they enjoy their learning journey in Taiwan.
Vice President Jie Yang of Guilin University of Aerospace Technology (GUAT), an NCUE's partner university in Mainland China, led a group to come visit in hopes of deepening the long-term collaboration with NCUE. They paid a visit to the exchange students from GUAT as well. NCUE Vice President Ming-Fei Chen expressed his hope to extend the collaboration in the long run from student exchange to faculty exchange based on the mutual needs of both universities.
The Office of International and Cross-strait Affairs (OICA) at NCUE held the Orientation for 233 exchange students from Mainland China, Germany, Malaysia, Korea and Japan and 7 degree-seeking students from the Mainland at the beginning of the semester. NCUE President Yen-Kuang Kuo expressed his hope that the exchange students would have a joyful learning journey in Taiwan. He also looks forward to more European students coming to study. From this semester there would be 100 students from Longyan University and Wuyi University of the Mainland studying the special program in Finance at NCUE for a year. The teachers coming along with the students were also present at the orientation.
President Frank Dievernich of Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (FRA-UAS), Germany, and Director Andrea Janssen of the International Office at FRA-UAS, visited the College of Engineering and the Graduate Institute of Vehicle Engineering at NCUE in October and was impressed by NCUE’s positive and friendly learning environment. Both universities expect to promote internship programs that arrange for exchange students to participate in practical training at the local companies. The education at FRA-UAS gives weight to theory-practice integration. Currently there are three NCUE exchange students studying there.

With the remarkable progress of internationalization, NCUE has extended its partner network to more areas around the world. Its partner universities cover 16 countries, including the United States, Germany, the UK, France, Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and China. Around ten quality non-Chinese new partner universities and prospective partners are added this year, all of which reserve exchange quota for NCUE students. Thailand, Russia and Spain, in which a new partner or partner-to-be is located respectively, are the countries that NCUE develops a partnership with for the very first time.
