The National Changhua University of Education (NCUE) was established in 1971 in Changhua County, Taiwan. The university’s mission is to foster a holistic approach to education that emphasizes comprehensive student development. For decades, NCUE has been dedicated to the cultivation of a balanced program of teacher education, scholarly research, student development, and community service. The university employs a well-organized system for middle school teacher training and is an established contributor to various academic fields, such as education, art, science, technology, engineering, management, social sciences, and physical education.

NCUE’s seven colleges together comprise 21 departments, 43 master programs, and 15 doctoral programs and see an average annual enrollment of approximately 8000 students. Several departments, such as the Department of Guidance and Counseling, the Department of Special Education, the Department of Industrial Education and Technology, and the Department of Finance are the first of their kind in Taiwan. The university also has numerous distinguished research centers, such as the Community Counseling Center, the Special Education Center, the Science Education Center, the Technical and Vocational Education Center, the Environmental Education Center, and the Science and Technology Research Center.

The university is enhancing its e-learning services to further integrate the curricula with digital learning resources. With devoted teachers and staff, NCUE offers students a dynamic and exciting learning and living experience.
 

NCUE is situated in the northern part of Changhua County, which was one of the three earliest settlements in Taiwan. Changhua County, where the mountain and coastal railroad routes converge, is a busy transport hub in central Taiwan. Changhua is 15 minutes away by bus from Taichung High Speed Rail Station. It is an hour away from Taipei (the country’s capital city), Kaohsiung (Taiwan’s second largest city), and Taoyuan International Airport. It is 30 minutes away from several industrial and science parks. Changhua’s location provides considerable opportunities for NCUE students to engage in collaborative undertakings with both government agencies and local industries.

Changhua City is best known for its landmark statue of a seated Buddha. Other local attractions include the oldest Confucius temple in Taiwan, Tianwei Highway Garden (the largest flower cultivation area in the nation), and a coastal wildlife reservation and ecology zone. The Lukang historical site showcases temples and historical architecture and affords visitors an opportunity to explore Taiwanese heritage and history.

Rich in beautiful natural scenery and precious relics, Changhua City’s cultural landscape provides an ideal setting upon which the university has built its renowned reputation. NCUE, with its professional human resources in the fields of education, science, humanities, art, engineering, social sciences, and management, has formed a comprehensive regional network and has established an educational and cultural sphere that emphasizes the region’s artistic and cultural wealth.

 

After transitioning from a professional teaching institution into an experienced and comprehensive university, NCUE developed systematic curricula to prepare students for a multitude of social and professional challenges. Specifically, NCUE focuses on fostering a broad, international perspective. In February 2013, the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs was established to facilitate international exchanges and to expand the scope of educational activities. NCUE has entered into collaboration agreements with many prestigious universities worldwide to boost research income, devise new research collaborations, and offer more opportunities for students and faculty members to study or teach abroad. The university currently enjoys partnerships with more than 110 universities from Asia, North America, Europe, and Australia.

Situated in central Taiwan, NCUE takes full advantage of its location and serves as a base for local collaborative activities. Such activities provide students with hands-on learning experience, which helps them establish connections within government agencies and local industries.
