The Office of International and Cross-strait Affairs (OICA) led 111 students from Mainland China and Germany to visit Che Cheng, a mountain town once prosperous for the logging industry, and the Sun Moon Lake, a must-see attraction in Taiwan, on April 22. They not only experienced the beauty of nature and culture in central Taiwan, but also made friends with those from different places. It was drizzling but the students enjoyed the painting-like views of the mist day, bringing them a memorable experience.

Right after the visit from Vice President Matthias Knaut of the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin, Deputy Director Friederike Schoefisch of the International Office at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Frankfurt UAS) came visit NCUE to sign a cooperation agreement and to offer the students interested in studying in Germany advice on related issues. The establishment of partnership with Frankfurt UAS gives NCUE students further opportunity to exchange abroad.

Vice President Matthias Knaut and Dean Jochen Hönow of the International Office of the University of Applied Sciences in Berlin (HTW Berlin) made a return visit to NCUE in March 2017, having an extensive exchange of views on further collaboration between the two schools with NCUE President Yen-Kuang Kuo. President Kuo first met both visitors last November when visiting HTW Berlin. Each year there is a certain number of NCUE students applying for exchange to HTW Berlin, and it is expected that HTW Berlin will soon send the first exchange student over in the Fall 2017. Both sides are looking forward to extending their collaboration to teacher exchange and cooperative research.

NCUE and the Yu Hua National Type Secondary School (SMJK Yu Hua) in Malaysia signed the Letter of Intent on Cooperation and changed views on the application for studies at NCUE and the overseas graduate programs established by NCUE in Malaysia while Director Mei-Chin Tsai of Counseling Office at SMJK Yu Hua led a team to come to attend the teacher training workshop in March. Recently NCUE has extended the recruitment effort from local independent Chinese secondary schools in Malaysia to the public ones. It is expected to increase the diversity of NCUE students.

The Overseas Chinese Student Association (OCSA) at NCUE hosted the Chinese New Year gala in early March. NCUE President Yen-Kuang Kuo distributed the “red envelopes” to the students and extended belated New Year greetings to them. The students were thrilled. In remarks President Kuo detailed the construction projects that are expected to be completed by the end of his term of office to provide a better learning environment and service for students. He expressed his hope that all the overseas students could have a great time at NCUE with the assistance from the Office of International and Cross-strait Affairs (OICA).
